DIAUTE, Richard F. “Dick”, of Braintree, passed away peacefully, after a wonderful life, surrounded by his loving family, on January 5, 2023, at the age of 86. Born in Lynn, Dick grew up in Braintree. In 1954 after Dick earned his apprenticeship as a shipfitter from Bethlehem Steel, he and his brother Danny started their journey in developing the highly respected, family owned, Diaute Bros. Ornamental Iron in Braintree. His artistry and talents in iron works are displayed throughout the region. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed his home and yard, he was a classic and antique car enthusiast, and he loved the ocean and summering at his home in Falmouth with family. Dick also held a Real Estate Brokers License for many years and was a member of the Braintree Masonic Delta Lodge A F & A M. Of all his passions, Dick was most happy when spending time with his family and friends. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Dick will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Dick was the beloved husband of 55 years to the love of his life Margaret A. "Margie" (Colicchio) Diaute. Loving father of Cheryl A. O’Brien and her husband James of Braintree and Richard F. Diaute, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Hingham. Brother of the late Josephine Crawford, Helen Morton, Alfred Diaute, Madeline Habicht and Daniel Diaute. Cherished “Papa” to James O’Brien, Jr., Nicolette O’Brien, Devin O’Brien, Alessandra Diaute, Giovanna Diaute, Tyler O’Brien, Gabriella Diaute and Jordan O’Brien. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and his devoted companion, his standard poodle, “Bo”. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, January 10th, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 11th, at 11:00 AM in the South Congregational Church, 1075 Washington St., Braintree. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
