MORRISSEY, Gordon “Joe”, of Braintree, originally from Dorchester, passed away on January 1, 2023, after a brief illness, at the age of 89. Born and raised in Dorchester, Gordon graduated from B.C. High School. He then went on to graduate from Boston College with a degree in accounting. Gordon retired from the MBTA in 1998, after a 26-year career. He was a member of the McKeon Post in Dorchester and the Quincy Elks. A talented, self-taught musician, he played guitar, violin, piano and the accordion, just to name a few. He was a long time member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree, where he was an usher and collector for many years. In his free time, Gordon enjoyed taking rides to Cape Cod and the Chatham Lighthouse and cheering on his favorite Boston sports teams. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Gordon will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Gordon was the beloved husband of Helen Eileen (O’Halloran) Morrissey. Loving father of Eileen Joan Barnicoat and her husband Charles of Naples, FL, Laura Mary Kohler and her husband David of Rockland and Stephen Joseph Morrissey and his wife Alisha of Norwood. Devoted brother of Jean Ward of Quincy and the late Bertha McKenna, Lillian Taglieri and Helen Davey. Cherished “Grampy” to CJ, Stephen, Sean, Ryan, Robbie, Madelyn, Amelia and Olivia. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 5th, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 6th, at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree., Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
