LYONS, James J. “Jim”, of Braintree, formerly of Stoughton, died peacefully at home, on December 28, 2022, at the age of 87. James was born to Fredrick J Lyons and Katherine Ann (Walsh) Lyons.

James was raised and educated in Dorchester. He was a lifetime member of the Savin Hill Yacht Club in Dorchester. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, from 1953-1956 and served during the Korean War.

James worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a power plant engineer at the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton, until his retirement. After his retirement, James worked for the Wilkinson Company until 2020. He worked many jobs to provide for his family and had an incredible work ethic.

In his free time, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with friends, a passion he enjoyed up until his mid 70’s. James was also an active member of AA for over 43 years, where he volunteered his time and was a respected sponsor to many candidates over the years. Of all his achievements, James’ greatest accomplishment was his family. He found his true happiness by spending time with them.

James is survived by his two loving sons, James J. Lyons, Jr. and his wife Karin of Kingston and Kevin M. Lyons and his wife Deirdre of Hingham. Cherished grandfather to his five grandchildren, Christopher, Evan, Jessica, Majella and Maeve.

James is also survived by his beloved sister Ellen T. Crowley of Braintree and predeceased by his sister Katherine Ann Lawlor. He was the beloved uncle of Christopher Lawlor, Mary Frances Stenson, Kathy McSweeney and countless other family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, January 3rd, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 4th, at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
