WARD, Virginia M. (Devlin), of Braintree, passed away after a brief illness on December 13, 2022 at the age of 98.

Born in 1924 to James and Anna Devlin, Virginia grew up in Dorchester. She married George V. Ward in 1950, and they settled in Braintree in 1966 to raise their 4 daughters.

She was a 1941 graduate of Girls' Latin School in Boston, MA. Virginia graduated from Emmanuel College in 1945 with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a minor in Physics. For many years, she enjoyed working as an analytic chemist at B.B. Chemical in Cambridge, MA. After raising her daughters, she worked for the IRS in Boston, as well as H&R Block in Braintree.

As a child, Virginia attended the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago, which remained a lifelong memory. Summers were spent at the family cottage in the Sand Hills neighborhood of Scituate or traveling the world with George and their four daughters. As a longtime member of the Weymouth Club, Virginia never slowed down and she continued exercise classes via Zoom, right up until her recent illness. She often amazed her grandchildren with her Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune prowess, and her sweet and sour meatballs were a family favorite. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and the daily cryptoquote puzzle. Virginia attended Saturday Mass at St. Clare and St. Francis of Assisi regularly.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Virginia will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Virginia was the loving mother of Anne Rice and her husband Jim of Plymouth, Patricia Sears and her husband David of E. Weymouth, Joyce Meaden and her husband Kenneth Sr. of Weymouth, and Virginia Muh and her partner William of Weymouth. Devoted grandmother to Julie Prillinger (Richard) of Redwood City, CA; William Lemay of Massena, NY; Nicole Rossics (David) of Kennebunkport, ME; Kathleen Burke (Christopher) of Houghs Neck, MA; Jacquelyn Muh of Hingham, MA; and Kenneth Meaden Jr. of Weymouth, MA. Dedicated great grandmother to Taylor, Emily, Benjamin, Avery, Brendan, Ella, Nathan, and Findley. Devoted sister to Gerard Devlin of Bowie, MD and the late Thomas, James, Patricia, and Anne.
