MESSALINE , Jeanne M. (LaVache), of Braintree, died peacefully on November 18, 2022 at the age of 76. Jeanne was born on November 25, 1945, in Cambridge, MA. Her family moved to Walpole and then Needham, where she attended Needham High School. A natural beauty inside and out, she was a proud cheerleader and also crowned winner of the Ms. Needham contest. She graduated from Boston University in 1967 with a degree in Education. Two weeks after graduation, Jeanne married the love of her life, David Messaline, and moved to Marshfield for one year before becoming long-time residents of Braintree. Jeanne began teaching at the Daniel Webster Elementary School in Marshfield, MA. She also spent many years in the jewelry business where she apparently acquired an appreciation of fine gems and racked up quite an impressive personal collection. Jeanne also boasted a hat collection that would make any lady at the Kentucky Derby envious. Over the years, Jeanne was active in Braintree youth softball and taught CCD at St. Clare’s Church. She also volunteered with the Braintree Rotary Club, South Shore Hospital, Braintree Rehabilitation Center, and her daughters’ schools. No work meant more to Jeanne, though, than her role as longtime mentor for people in recovery, whom she loved. Jeanne was such a powerful presence, commanding the spotlight at any occasion. She was a fashion icon. Among those who will miss her most are Louis Vuitton, Lilly Pulitzer, Kate Spade, Coco Chanel, and Ralph Lauren. She loved to read and would devour books (mostly from Target) and then pass them along to friends and family. Jeanne especially enjoyed traveling the world. She may not have been able to tell a joke, but it was impossible not to laugh with Jeanne. Kindness and charm are the first words that come to mind to those lucky enough to have met her. Nothing in the world was more important to “Mémé” than her family. Beloved wife of David J. Messaline. Devoted mother of Leslie Flanagan and her husband Richard of Braintree and Rachel Messaline Silva of North Attleboro. Dear daughter of the late Frances and Eleanor (Borges) LaVache. Cherished grandmother of Emma and Christian Flanagan of Braintree and Justin and Elizabeth Silva of North Attleboro. Loving sister of Janet Thompson of California, Jack Hinchey of Billerica, Charlene Bonadies of Medfield, Denise Karacius of Norwell and Tricia Walsh of Taunton. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree until 9:15 AM Saturday, November 26th followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM in St. Clare Church, 1244 Liberty St., Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, November 25th, from 4:00PM – 7:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree.
