BURKE, Brendan E. passed peacefully at home with his family on October 27 at the age of 78. Born on January 23, 1944 to the late Mary and Joseph Leo Burke, he and his brother, Kevin Burke, of Clearwater, FL were raised in Roslindale, then in 1966 he married the love of his life, the late Mary Lou (Rethinger) Burke and moved to Holbrook in 1971. They spent their summers in Hull giving their children the best childhood memories. He was a loving and devoted husband for 39 years until his wife passed in 2005. His heart was forever broken. Brendan is survived by his children, Karen Duffy and her husband, Chris, of Hanson, and Marie Verlicco and Patrick Burke, both of Holbrook, proud grandfather of Christopher, Sean, Nick, Owen, Keagan, Kevin and Lauren and great grandfather of Henry and Jack. Loving Uncle to Amy Murphy of Atlanta and Jeffrey Burke of Chicago. Brendan was proud to have served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Boston Mailerís Union Local 1. He worked at The Boston Globe for over 40 years, and was known for his big heart, sense of humor, love for his family and passion for all sports, especially the Boston Bruins. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home 69 S. Franklin St. (RT37) Holbrook until 9:45 am on Friday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30am in St. Joseph Church 153 S. Franklin St.(RT37) Holbrook. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Thursday 4-7pm. Burial in Union Cemetery Holbrook. Being the ultimate Bruins fan, it has always been Brendanís wish that visitors wear their favorite Bruins apparel.
