SIMMONS, Benjamin of Fleming Island, Florida passed away on April 13, 2022, at the age of 81.

Ben was born in Switchback, West Virginia on April 20, 1940, and was the second eldest son to the late Jessie Simmons, Sr., and Alva (McGue) Simmons. Ben was a very curious child who maintained his quest for knowledge and new information throughout his life. He attended Park Central High School in Bluefield West Virginia. Ben later moved to Boston Massachusetts where he earned his Associates Degree from Bunker Hill College in Business Administration. He began is his career at Mass General Hospital and retired from New England Medical Center, as a Food Service Manager after 40 years.

Ben enjoyed the occasional glass of whiskey, a good game of Sudoku, and his daily sweet roll. He was blessed with a loving family. He married the love of his life, Peggy (Ward). Together they created a wonderful life as “snowbirds” traveling from Massachusetts to Florida seasonally. Together they raised a loving family. Ben was a proud man who prided himself on always looking professional, and always being supportive to his children, family, and friends. He especially doted on his grandchildren, and never forgot a birthday or a holiday.

Ben is survived by his wife, Peggy, his brothers Thomas Edward (Louise) Simmons and Jessie (Carol) Simmons both of Bluefield, WV, his four sons, Troy Smith of Los Angeles, CA, Robert (Yolanda) Smith of Randolph, MA, Rickey E. Simmons of Cambridge, MA, and Jared (Darniece) Simmons of Randolph, MA, twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Acie (Georgia) Simmons, and sister, Pearl (Billy) Harris of Bluefield, WV.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation period on Saturday, April 30th, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph. A Funeral Service will immediately follow the visitation in the Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain.
