O'BRIEN, Maurice J., of Braintree, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on April 25, 2022, at the age of 87. Born in Boston, Maurice was raised and educated in Dorchester. Maurice proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an extremely hard-working man who did whatever it took to succeed in life. Maurice worked 3 different jobs while attending Newbury Junior College to further his education. For over 40 years, he worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. Maurice then later worked at Sudbury Farms in Randolph in the bakery department, finally retiring at the age of 81. He loved to give out cookies to the children and be a “Dad” to many that worked in the store. He was a caring man who liked to help others in any way he could. Maurice was very social and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed going out to dinner, taking walks and going for rides with his cherished dog, Lilly. Maurice looked forward to his annual luncheon with his brother Bill and a great group of friends. He was a kind man who will sorely be missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Beloved husband of Barbara H. (Bouley) O’Brien. Loving father of Robert O’Brien and his wife Brenda of Brockton, Stephen O’Brien and his wife Valeria of Braintree, Jeffrey O’Brien and his wife Jamie of Kennebunkport, ME, Karen Collins of Braintree, Gregory O’Brien and his wife Jennifer of Plymouth and Suzanne Jonasson and her husband Anders of Norwell. Cherished grandfather of Kristen, Melissa, Marybeth, Stephanie, Jordan, Garrett, Jake, Bridget, Luke, Laird and Kellan. Great-grandfather of James, Gemma, Myles and Leo. Devoted brother of Frances Hoefel, William O’Brien and the late Kathleen Walker. Maurice is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation period on Tuesday, May 3rd, from 9:30 – 11:30 AM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated following the visitation at 12:00 PM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., Braintree. Burial will be private.
