CUSHING, William R. “Bill”, lifelong Braintree resident, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 75. Born in Weymouth, Bill grew up in Braintree and graduated from Braintree High School, Class of 1964. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He spent 34 years serving as a patrolman for the Town of Braintree Police Department, retiring in 2011. In his free time, Bill enjoyed music, fishing, the beach and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Bill will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Bill was the beloved husband of Pamela (Burbank) Cushing. Loving father of Leighanne Cushing-Goodwin of Braintree, William R. Cushing, Jr. of Braintree, Kristen Cushing-Pitts of Braintree, Daniel Cushing of Braintree and Amy Cushing of Weymouth. Devoted brother of Mary Cushing, Joan Cushing, Edward Cushing, Joseph Cushing, Thomas Cushing and the late Leonard Cushing, Robert Cushing, Paul Cushing, Ellen Cushing, and Richard Cushing. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, April 12th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 13th at 12:00 Noon in St. Clare Church, 1244 Liberty St., Braintree. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
