SHEPHERD, David Alexander, age 88, of Braintree, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2022, surrounded by members of his loving family.

Known to all as Dave, he was born in Boston on October 14,1933. One of six children of Mr. and Mrs. David Ogilvy Shepherd, of Scotland, Dave grew up in Quincy, MA and attended Quincy High School, where he excelled in football. During the Korean conflict, he proudly served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force.

Dave’s formal education included degrees from Sacramento Junior College, the University of Wisconsin College of Engineering, and Northeastern University.

Heading up Shepherd Construction Management Company, he supervised the creation of many buildings in the Braintree area, including the Thayer Public Library and the new Braintree Electric Light Department.

David Shepherd was a team player, a civic minded participant in Rotary International and other community organizations, for which he received numerous honorary awards.

He leaves his devoted wife, Sarah Kelley Shepherd, seven children from an earlier marriage: David William Shepherd, Mark Alan Shepherd, Charles Robert Shepherd, Bonnie Shepherd Messina, Susan Shepherd Williams, Linda Shepherd Webb, Heather Shepherd Gregory, eighteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Dave’s talents included passion for functional and useful design of living space, and the ability to create furniture, toys, bookcases and more, in his woodworking shop, to improve the lives of everyone around him. One treasured example of such work is the beautiful music chest he lovingly created for Sarah’s piano music.

He will be remembered for his steadfast loyalty to friends, family, and community, as well as his warmly optimistic and gregarious disposition.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, April 8th, at 1:00 PM in Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St., Braintree. To leave a sympathy message for the family, please visit www.cartwrightfuneral.com.
