WHALEN, John J., of Brockton, formerly of Braintree, passed away peacefully after a long illness, on January 3, 2022, at the age of 76. Born in Dorchester, John grew up in Braintree, graduating Braintree High School, Class of 1964. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. John was a tractor trailer driver for Grossmanís Inc. for 41 years until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Randolph Elks Lodge, #2130. John loved camping, woodworking, fishing and playing horseshoes. He also enjoyed playing card games with friends and family. John cherished the time he spent with his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Beloved husband of Ann (Tantillo) Whalen. Loving father of Diane Ray and her husband Rodney of Brandon, FL and Michael Whalen and his wife Robyn of Whitman. Cherished grandfather of Michael, Mathew, Erika, Kevin and Megan. Dear son of the late John and Mary (Martin) Whalen. Devoted brother of James Whalen of NC, Mary Fernald of Braintree, Thomas Whalen of Braintree and Jean Campbell of Braintree. John is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation period on Friday, January 7th, from 4:00 Ė 8:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 N. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 8th, at 10:00 AM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, Randolph. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Should friends desire in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Johnís name to St. Jude Childrenís Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
