HIGGINS, Anna , age 92, formerly of Weymouth, MA entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 20, 2021, after nearly seven years of loving care by the staff at Cardigan Nursing in Scituate and Beacon Hospice.

Anna was born and raised in Dangan, Tuam, County Galway, Ireland. Beloved daughter of deceased James and Catherine Higgins; devoted sister to the late Eileen Beechinor (John), Jack Higgins (Julia), and Mick Higgins (Phyllis). She is survived and adored by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Ireland and the United States.

Anna came to America as a young adult, and settled with family in Boston. She found rewarding work as the live-in household manager and full time cook at St. Barbara’s Rectory in Woburn. Anna was able to eventually transfer to St. Francis of Assisi Rectory in Braintree to be close to her family on the South Shore. Anna became a proud citizen of the United States, but always called Ireland her home. She visited her homestead farmland in Dangan several weeks every summer. Anna was a devote Catholic and enjoyed the Christian community while serving the clergy. Her reputation for cooking wholesome hearty meals preceded her. In fact, Anna was often teasingly blamed for the weight gain of resident and visiting clergy. Dignitaries often pre-requested special dishes for events when Anna was in charge of the refreshments.

At retirement, Anna moved to Weymouth where she spent many joyful years before needing full time care. At Cardigan Nursing, Anna promptly became known as one of the “Galway Girls” along with her sister Eileen. She delighted the staff with her quick Irish wit and laughter. Her greatest joy was had with friends and family over a cup of tea, home made Irish bread and a “gab.” Anna will be fondly remembered for her bright smile, care giving heart and cheerful personality.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, December 31st from 9 :00 -10:00 AM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., South Braintree.
