CANAVAN, Irene R. “Sandy” (Gelinas), of Randolph, formerly of Athol, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2021, at the age of 88. Born and raised in Athol, Irene graduated from Athol High School. She worked for many years as a secretary in the insurance industry. Irene was an active member of her community as a member of the Randolph Seniors, member of the Council on Aging, longtime communicant at St. Bernadette Church, where she also a member of the knitting group and she was a Town Meeting member for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, arts and crafts and was proud of her Silver Medal she had won in the Randolph Senior Olympics, however, spending time with her family and grandchildren is what brought her the most joy. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, Irene will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Irene was the wife of the late Joseph P. Canavan. Loving mother of Patricia DeOssie and her husband Joseph of Randolph, Carol Noone and her husband Michael of Falmouth and Joseph Canavan, III of Randolph. Sister of late Richard Gelinas and Janet Burdett. Cherished “Nanny” to Sharon, Meghan, Danielle, Michael, Colleen, Jillian, Amie and Patrick. Dear “Gigi” to Madelyn, Joseph, Sophie, Abigail, Jacob, Rylee, Lucas, Michael, III, Leah and Maxwell. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, September 16th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (RT. 28), Randolph. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 17th at 11:00 AM in St. Bernadette Church, 1031 No. Main St., Randolph. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
