CRAYTON, Claire Elaine “Pumpkin” (Smith), of Brockton, formerly of Roxbury, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on March 24, 2021, at the age of 76. Born in Boston, Claire graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Northeastern University and a Master’s Degree from Emerson College. Claire worked for many years as a social worker for the Boston Public School System and more recently as assistant director for Summerhill House in Norwood. In her free time, Claire had a passion for reading and writing and a love of music, especially R & B. She enjoyed watching the black and white movies on Turner Classic Movie channel and the Wendy Williams show. Claire was a mentor to many and was an advocate for all, and if you ever needed anything, she would always be there for everyone with her wisdom or some sage advice. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother mentor and friend, Claire will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Claire was the beloved wife of William “Bill” Crayton. Loving mother of Kyle Crayton, Lauren Crayton, Audrey Edith Crayton – Goodwin and Willaim Russell Crayton, Jr., all of Boston. Sister of the late William Smith. Cherished “Pumpkin” to Isaiah William Crayton and “Grandmother” to Dwight Christopher Goodwin, Jr. Also survived by her great grand-daughters, Alana and Sophia. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity, those attending will be asked to pay their respects and depart to allow the next guests to enter the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Memorial Visiting hours on Wednesday, March 31st from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph. A Memorial Service will follow at 7:00 PM. Burial will be private. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
