BORDEN, David C. “Mr. B”, of E. Bridgewater, formerly of Braintree, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2021, after a brief illness, at the age of 80. Born in Albany, NY, Dave was raised in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School. He then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he proudly served for 10 years before reenlisting with the United States Navy Reserve for another 10 years. Dave spent over 15 years working at Boston University in the Buildings and Grounds division and was also the owner of General Remodeling, where he worked on several projects throughout the South Shore, prior to his retirement. An avid sports fan, Dave loved coaching Braintree CYO and summer league basketball teams. His coaching style encouraged fun, hustle and toughness which let to several championships. He was a softball pitcher for many years in Hingham and always enjoyed a few ‘cold ones’ after the games with his teammates. On any given day you could find him rooting for his favorite Boston sports teams. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, a game of cribbage and telling stories to anyone who would listen. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, David will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known him. David was the beloved husband of Joanne (Clark) Borden. Loving father of Terri Vontzalides of Beverly, Bob Borden of Braintree and Derek Borden and his wife Stasi of Franklin. Brother of the late Wayne Borden. Cherished grandfather to Jack Borden, Andrew Vontzalides, Alec Borden and Stephen Vontzalides. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity, those attending will be asked to pay their respects and depart to allow the next guests to enter the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, March 23rd from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A private Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 24th at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth. Burial will follow in the Braintree Cemetery.
