ROOD, Herbert W. “Chuck”, Jr., lifelong resident of Randolph, passed away after a brief illness on March 5, 2021, at the age of 60. Born in Milton, Chuck grew up in Randolph and graduated from Randolph High School, Class of 1978. He was a general contractor and a member of the Carpenters Union, Local # 223. Chuck was the owner of H.W. Rood, Jr. General Contractors, performing many jobs in and around the South Shore for many years. A proud and active member of his community, Chuck plowed for the Town of Randolph for over 30 years and was the facilities director for Randolph Youth Baseball/Softball for many years. In his free time, Chuck enjoyed playing poker with his friends, watching the Andy Griffith show, cheering on his favorite Boston sports teams, or just hanging out in his “Man Cave” with his family and friends. Chuck was a selfless and caring man, who was always putting others before himself. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, in-law and friend, Chuck will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Chuck was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Pohl) Rood. Loving father of Danielle Rood of Randolph. Devoted brother of Barbara Crockett of Middleboro. Brother-in-law of Michael “Moose” Pohl of Randolph. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity, those attending will be asked to pay their respects and depart to allow the next guests to enter the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, March 11th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph. A private Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 12th in St. Bernadette Church, Randolph. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Pl, Boston, MA 02215.
