HUGHES, David L., of Brockton, formerly of Dorchester, passed away, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family, on February 15, 2021, at the age of 79. Born and raised in Boston, David graduated from Cathedral High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. David worked as a Union Typesetter for a commercial printing company for many years. After his retirement, he began a second career as a security guard at State Street Bank in Quincy. An avid golfer, Dave was a member of the D.W. Field Golf Course in Brockton. He was an active member of the Brockton Senior Center, the Polish White Eagle Club and New Beginnings. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, David will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. David was the husband of the late Elaine M. (Murphy) Hughes. Loving father of Debbie Marino and her husband David of Peabody, David Hughes and his wife Jenna of Weymouth and Carolyn Goldstein and her husband Steven of Brockton. Devoted brother of Carol Mealy, Kathleen Lozier and James Hughes all of Norwood and the late Donald Hughes. Cherished “Grandpa” to Olivia, Owen, David and Michael and “Great Grandpa” to Lyla. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation period on Tuesday, February 23rd from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St., Holbrook. A Funeral Service will follow in the Funeral Home at 12:00 PM. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
