McCARTHY, Richard D. “Dick” of Holbrook passed away after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family, on December 15, 2020, at the age of 90. Born in Boston, raised in Weymouth, Dick was a graduate of Boston University, class of 1960. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force. For many years, Dick worked as a handler for the United States Postal Service Registry at South Postal Annex. He was an avid New England sports fan and golfer and longtime member of the Rockland Golf Course. For many years, Dick was a member of the Holbrook Knights of Columbus. He was a man of strong faith who for years attended St. Joseph Church in Holbrook as was a member of the Men’s Choir. Dick was a kind and caring man who helped so many people without recognition. He was a true gentleman and had a love for sweets. Dick was a man of few words, but he touched so many lives in so many ways. He will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Beloved husband of Barbara F. (Harris) McCarthy. Loving father of Patti Mackie of Taunton, James McCarthy and his wife Carrie of Amesbury, Catherine Smith and her husband Danny of Raynham, John McCarthy of NV, Maureen Croteau of Taunton, Richard McCarthy, Jr. of Taunton and the late Mary Ferguson and her husband John. Step-father of Wendy Uronis and her husband Richard of Bourne, and Sandi Callahan and her husband Paul of Abington. Son of the late Francis and Lillian (Ruane) McCarthy. Devoted brother of James McCarthy and his wife June of Wakefield, Katherine Sheeran of Reading, Denise Bulens and her husband Bill of Billerica and the late Mary Frances McLaughlin and her late husband Mac. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer Hills of IN, Sarah and Tyler Smith of Raynham, Courtney Ferguson of Taunton, Ryan Ferguson of AZ, Sean Ferguson of AZ, Richard Uronis of Bourne, Andrea Uronis of Cotuit, Mason and Adam McCarthy of Attleboro. Great-grandfather of Rylan Kelley of Fall River and Cole Hills of IN. Former husband of Joan McCarthy. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity a Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9th, from 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM with a Private Memorial Service to follow at 10:00 AM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St. (RT. 37), Holbrook. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
