CHIN, Nelson Keith, of Braintree, passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2020 at the age of 66. Born in Boston, Nelson graduated from Boston Latin Academy before furthering his education with a Bachelor’s Degree from Providence College and a Master’s Degree from Northeastern University. Nelson was the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Braintree for many years. He helped organize concerts at Sunset Lake, parties in the park, established playgrounds around town and summer camp programs for the kids. Nelson also oversaw maintaining the sports playing fields as well as the Ski Lesson Program at Blue Hills. He was a proud member of several organizations; The Braintree Rotary Club, where he served as Sergeant-at-Arms, Braintree Friends of the 4th, Member of the Braintree Recreation Advisory Board and the Braintree High School Athletic Association. Nelson was a longtime supporter of the Boy Scout Troop 138 and Braintree Youth Sports. He volunteered for several organizations and events, such as the Braintree Youth Center, Braintree Flag Football and Braintree’s Relay-for-life. Nelson was also a volunteer and long-time supporter of the Marge Crispin Center and was the former President, Director and coach of Braintree Youth Soccer. He loved meeting people and being able to help others. Nelson enjoyed playing ping pong, attending concerts and watching professional sports. He also liked to walk the track at the high school and loved to eat! Nelson’s biggest accomplishment was his family. He enjoyed coaching and attending all three of his children’s sporting events. Nelson was the biggest supporter of his children’s accomplishments and so proud of all they have achieved. He was a kind, caring and selfless man who loved the entire Town of Braintree. Nelson will truly be missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Beloved wife of Susan J. Chin. Loving father of Andrew N. Chin, Amanda E. Chin and Adam N. Chin, all of Braintree. Dear son of Betty Chin of Boston and the late Neil Y.H. Chin. Devoted brother of Karen I. Chin of Braintree. Nelson is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, December 28th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Private Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 29th in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Braintree Plain Street Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nelson Chin Memorial Fund, C/O South Shore Bank, 372 Washington St. Braintree, MA 02184.
