CULLINANE, John R., of Braintree, died July 10, 2020 after a battle with heart and kidney diseases at the age of 78. Like he did his own home, Jack built his life from the ground up. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, a skilled tradesman and longtime employee of the Town of Braintree. He dedicated his life to ensuring the comfort and happiness of his beloved family, which was most important to him. He is survived by his loving wife, his soulmate, Catherine (Christian), of 55 years. He is the beloved father of Diane Cullinane and John Cullinane and cherished Papa of Ashley, Justice and Ceth. Dear brother of Phyllis Morse, Robert Cullinane and spouse Adele, Richard Grillo and spouse Lynda, the late Joyce Humphries (Grillo), Kenneth Grillo, Steve Cullinane and spouse Donna, Christine Cullinane, Jim Cullinane and spouse Elaine, sister-in-law Marjorie “Dee” (Christian) and the late Joseph Bernasconi, and brother-in-law Jack Christian. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, to which he was the adored “Uncle Jackie.” He was the son of Cambridge firefighter John Edward Cullinane, who died in the line of duty Dec. 24, 1975, and Ruth Grillo (Johnston), who was notably the first female bus driver in Massachusetts for Hudson Bus Co. and a fierce advocate for South Shore elders, having received a degree in gerontology from UMass Boston at age 77. Jack cherished his friendships and enjoyed many decades full of love and laughter over coffee and classic cars. He will be sorely missed by everyone whose path he crossed. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings and social distancing, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 16th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington Street, Braintree. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Jack Cullinane may be made to the American Heart Association Massachusetts.
