THORBURN, Cynthia Palmer, of Marietta, GA passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the age of 84. Cynthia was born in Boston to Elphine and Rodman Palmer and grew up in Randolph, MA where she was active in her church and captain of her high school basketball team. She graduated from Mount Auburn School of Nursing in Cambridge, MA and in 1957 married Bruce Russell Thorburn.
Cynthia was a devoted wife and loving mother. In addition to raising a family, she worked as a Registered Nurse and was always very active in her church and community. At Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Cynthia was an Elder, leader of the Health Care Guild, a trained Stephen Minister and she co-led a grief counseling effort there for over a decade, touching the lives of many.
Cynthia always fondly remembered her family vacations in Cape Cod and apple picking and lobster rolls in Maine. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge.
Cynthia is survived by her children Russell Bruce Thorburn (Katherine) of Philadelphia, PA, Ronald Palmer Thorburn (Shelda) of Newtown, PA, and Diane Patricia Thorburn of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by her grandsons Grant Addison Thorburn and Kenneth Duffield Thorburn, her niece Deborah Staaf, her nephew Rodman Palmer, and her sister Patricia Kendall. In addition to her parents, Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Bruce R. Thorburn, who passed away in 1985, and her brother Edward G. Palmer.
