DAVIES, Arthur G., of Braintree, 83 years of age, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a brief illness on Monday December 17th, 2018. Arthur, son of the late Helen (Robertson) and Henry Davies was a lifelong resident of East Braintree. Arthur met Ruby (Greene) Davies, his beloved wife of 61 years, in the first grade. Their love and family grew over the years as he was the devoted father to Arthur Davies and his wife Beth of Medfield, Douglas Davies and his wife Kathie of Holbrook, Brenda Ripley and her husband Eric of Weymouth and Cindy Keane and her husband Bill of Braintree. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Kyle and Valerie Ripley, Alex and the late Sarah Davies, Jenny and Billy Keane, and Kate, Hannah and Lilly Davies. He is survived by his brothers John “Jack” Davies and William Davies of Bridgewater and sister Beverly Lindquist of Braintree. He was also the brother of the late Henry “Hank” Davies, Marion Mulloy, Robert Davies, Donald Davies, Edward Davies and Arlene Hughes. He will be fondly remembered as Uncle Artie by his many nieces and nephews. After graduating from Braintree High School in 1953, where he was Captain of the football team, Arthur proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Glacier with Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. Arthur began his career as a carpenter, later becoming a construction superintendent, and finally employed as Executive Director of Union Towers Elderly Housing. Arthur grew up as a member of Union Congregational Church of Weymouth and Braintree and has been continually devoted since, serving and chairing many committees. He served on the board of the now Coastal Heritage Bank, the Marge Crispin Senior Center, and The ARC of the South Shore. In each leadership role he brought his construction background, dedication and problem-solving skills, always leaving things better than how he found them. He then received the prestigious 2013 President’s Volunteer Service Award, recognized for a lifetime of service to the community. Arthur enjoyed travel, his garden, biking and boating and he loved supporting his very large family, incredibly invested in everyone’s accomplishments. Some of his fondest memories included camping trips and the tradition of annual family vacations in Ogunquit, ME. He will be remembered by his hard-working nature, his warm smile and sincere generosity and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
