LOCKE, Virginia “Ginny”(Byrnes) Locke, a resident of Holbrook for over 55 years and formally from Dorchester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends on December 10, 2018. She was 86 years old. Virginia was born on May 17, 1932 and loved her years growing up in the city. She especially loved working for John Hancock in Boston in her early years. She loved working for the Irish Cottage in her later years. Virginia met the love of her life, “Buddy” as he was called, and married Andrew Locke on August 28, 1954 at St. Peter’s church in Dorchester. Together they raised their family in Holbrook. Ginny was a devout Catholic, attending church regularly. She was an active parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church in Holbrook where she raised her children and sent them to St. Joseph’s School for a good solid Catholic education. She belonged to many clubs in Holbrook. However, her love for reading always brought her to the library. She was a regular at the Holbrook Library and was active in the Book Club and many activities that pertained to the Library. Ginny was loved by everyone who met her. Everyone in Holbrook knew of her. She was very social and while on her daily walks with her “baby Chloe”, she would stop and talk to everyone. Everyone in Holbrook loved her. In her spare time, she loved to spend time with her family and many, friends. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her main focus. She would get a kick out of the Christmas season where the gifts for the kids would pile higher and higher as she kept shopping for them and would have to keep buying so that each grandchild would have the same amount of gifts. Christmas was her most loved Holiday for sure. She was a giver who didn't expect anything in return. Just loved to see the excitement on their faces. Virginia was the beloved wife of the late Andrew M. Locke. She was the devoted mother of Cheryl (Locke) Cordaro of Whitman and Robert F. Locke and his wife Mary of Weymouth. Virginia was the proud grandmother to Andrew Locke and his wife Danielle of Seattle, Washington, Jessica Caya and her husband Patric of
South Boston, Jonathan Cordaro of Allston and Robert Locke of Summerville. She also leaves three great grandchildren whom she adored. Madison and Audrey Locke, and Tucker Caya.
She also leaves a sister, Patricia LaFond of Hingham and a brother Daniel Byrnes of Braintree, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving mother Ernestine Caffanges Byrnes and her father Daniel Bynes, and a brother John Byrnes. She also leaves many, close friends that she considers family. She lived a beautiful life and was the most selfless, kind, gentle person that anyone could ever be lucky to have in theirs life. She will be dearly missed by all.
