HEGARTY, John P., of Braintree, formerly of Dorchester, passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2018, at the age of 85. Born and raised in Boston, John graduated from Cathedral High School in the South End. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. John was a retired supervisor from the Boston Edison where he had worked for 42 years. John’s family was the center of his life and his girls brought him great joy. His joy was taken to a whole new level when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren came into his life. John was loving and supportive and never missed an occasion or chance to spend time with his family. He will forever be remembered for his kind, gentle and genuine personality. John was truly a remarkable spirit and will be sadly missed by all. John was the beloved husband of Mary (Rushe) Hegarty for 62 years. Loving father of Mary Pat Kelley and her husband Michael of Braintree, Noreen Kelly and her husband Tom of Foxboro and Nancy Hegarty of Harwich. Devoted brother of Neil Hegarty of W. Roxbury and Robert Hegarty of Hanover. Dear “Papa” to Sean, Patrick, Meaghan, Brian, Brenna and Michael and adored “John” to his great grandchildren, Jack, Luke and Ella. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, November 9th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 10:30 AM in St. Thomas More Church, 7 Hawthorne Rd., Braintree. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
