O'NEIL, James W. “Jim”, of Braintree, formerly of Roslindale, passed away on August 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 91. Born in Dorchester and raised in Roslindale, Jim proudly attended and graduated from Boston Latin High School in 1945. He was the class President. He went on to continue his education by receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College. Jim served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. After his tour in the service, Jim joined the FBI. His career continued in security both publicly and privately. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Jim will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Jim was devoted to his faith and was a long-time parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi in Braintree. Jim was affectionately known as Big Jim by close friends and family because of his demanding stature and demeanor. He loved attending sporting events, especially when his kids and grandkids were involved. He had a special affinity for animals, especially beagles of which he owned several over the years. He loved his home and his neighborhood. Jim could always be seen tending to his flowers and yard, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Jean (Quintiliani) O’Neil, loving father of Christopher O’Neil and his wife Cathy of Burlington, Barbara O’Neil of Braintree, and Peter O’Neil and his wife Cindy of Kingston. Dear Papa to Shayne O’Neil, Brendan O’Neil, Katie O’Neil all of Burlington and Samantha O’Neil of Kingston. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Bernard and Sarah O’Neil, seven brothers, John, B. Joseph, David, Robert, Thomas, William and Paul and 1 sister, Eleanor Walsh. He leaves 5 nephews, Bernard O’Neil, Paul O’Neill, William O’Neil, Robert O’Neil and Gerard Bober, 2 nieces, Marie O’Neil Davidson and Judi Baldwin. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington Street, Braintree, MA 02184 until 9:30 AM, Monday, August 13, 2018 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 850 Washington Street, Braintree, MA 02184. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Boston Latin School High School, 78 Avenue Louis Pasteur, Boston, MA 02115.
