MORTON, Evelyn D. (Gabriele) “Evie”, of E. Weymouth, formerly of Jamaica Plain and Randolph, passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family, on April 17, 2018, at the age of 92, after a wonderful life. Born in Boston, Evie attended Randolph and finished in the Boston schools. For many years, Evie worked as a clerk at Bradlees Dept. Stores and Stop and Shop. Evelyn was described as loving, giving and forgiving. She loved animals and her home was called the last refuge and animal shelter. An excellent cook, everyone would look forward to family gatherings in order to have some of her Italian spaghetti and meatballs, stuffed shrimp, cheesecake and her famous fudge. In 2014 when her parish of St. Albert the Great in Weymouth was scheduled to be closed, Evelyn and the congregation went into vigil to keep it open. For ten months, she slept in the church, even ending up on the front page of the Metro section of the newspaper, asleep in a pew. After the vigil, she hosted Tea on Tuesday at her home for the congregation. A devoted wife, mother and friend, Evelyn will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Evelyn was the wife of the late Robert J. Morton. Loving mother of Meg “Cookie” Morton of Braintree. Daughter of the late Vincenzo and Beulah (Smith) Gabriele. Devoted sister of Vincent Gabriele, Anne Magnussen, Margaret Dixon, David Gabriele, Raymond Gabriele and Robert Gabriele. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (RT. 28) Randolph, until 9:00 AM on Monday, April 23rd, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church, 211 No. Main St., Randolph. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday, April 22nd from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
