NELSON, John T., of Chelmsford, formerly of Braintree, passed away after a period of declining health, on April 2, 2018, at the age of 91. Born in Boston, John was one of the youngest graduates from Mission Hill High School in Roxbury, at age 16. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. After 2 years in the Navy he went to work for New England Telephone Co., as a cable splicer in the manholes. After graduating from Bentley College with a degree in Accounting, he continued with the phone company as an Internal Auditor. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, John will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. John was the husband of the late Elizabeth (McQuaid) Nelson. Loving father of Maureen M. Foley and her husband David of Chelmsford and Michael J. Nelson and his wife Laurie of San Francisco, CA. Devoted brother of Margaret Habermas of Las Vegas, NV, Regina Campbell of Hanover and the late William, Charles, Albert and Phillip Nelson and Mary Fitzgerald. Dear “Grandpa” of Siobhan Greiner, Colleen Goldstein, Brendan Foley, Erin Foley, Bridget Nelson and Cara Nelson and “Great Grandpa” of Kieran, Dillon, Henrietta, Beatrice and George. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree, until 9:30 AM on Saturday, April 7th, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday, April 6th, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401 or a charity of one’s choice.
