HIGGINS, David D. “Bugs” of Braintree formerly of Cambridge passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family April 1, 2018 at the age of 69. Beloved husband of Tracey A. (Dalrymple) Higgins of Braintree. Loving step-father of Ashley Rudd and her husband Jeremy of GA, Shae and Cian both of Braintree. Devoted brother of Patsy Izzo and her husband Vic of Plymouth, Barbara Daniels and her late husband William of Hanover, Edward Higgins and his wife Linda of Harwich, and James Higgins and his wife Anne of Hopewell, NJ. Dear uncle of Tara and Maureen Izzo, Scott Daniels, Kerri Sorrento and her husband Fred, Colleen Daniels, Tim Higgins and his wife Julie, Mike Higgins and his wife Shawn, Caitrin Higgins and her fiancé Seamus and Kienan Higgins. Also survived by his cherished grandson Colson Rudd of GA and several grandnieces and grandnephews. David was born in Boston, grew up in Cambridge where he graduated from Cambridge High & Latin School, Class of 1966 and attended Northeastern University. He was the son of the late Patrick J. and Ellen (Downey) Higgins. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, 4th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas and obtained the rank of Specialist during the Vietnam Era. He was the Payroll Manager for the Boston Herald, where he worked for 46 years and retired this past March. David loved to ski, travel and play golf. His greatest joy however, came from spending time with family and friends. His quick wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree MA 02184 until 9:30 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2018, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, So. Braintree Sq. Relatives and friends are respectfully to attend. Visiting hours Monday, April 9, 2018, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20850
