JACKMAN, Joseph P. “Joe”, of Abington, Formerly of Holbrook and the West End of Boston, passed away March 5, 2018 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 56 years to Patricia A. “Pat” (O’Connor) Jackman. Loving father of Marie E. Moriarty and her husband Dan of Holbrook, Joseph R. Jackman and his wife Gretchen of Plymouth, Kathleen M. Young and her husband Bill of Marshfield, and Ann P. Poppenga and her husband Chris of Holbrook. Son of the late James and Mary Ellen “Nellie” (McGrath) Jackman. Devoted brother of Marie Walsh of So. Boston, Frank Jackman of So. Boston and the late James, Thomas and Roger Jackman. Cherished “Papa” of Daniel and Meghan Moriarty of Holbrook, Elizabeth and James Young of Marshfield, Abigail Jackman of New York City, Jack and Molly Poppenga of Holbrook. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, dear friends and extended family. Joe was born in Boston and grew up in the West End. He graduated from Cathedral High School and attended Bentley School of Accounting and Northeastern University. He and his wife lived in Holbrook for over 40 years before moving to Abington 15 years ago. He worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 38 years and retired as a Computer Program Systems Manager. He was a very active resident of the Town of Holbrook. He was former member of the Finance Committee, the Zoning Board of Appeals and a long time Town Meeting Member, and served for 13 years as the Community Member of the Holbrook High School Council and was a member of the Holbrook High School Music Parents. Joe also worked at Cartwright Funeral Home for several years after he retired. It gave him the opportunity to stay connected to the town he loved after moving to Abington. He coached Little League Baseball and was active in the Holbrook Youth Hockey Program where he served as Insurance Chairman. He was a very active member and communicant of St. Joseph Parish. He was a C.C.D Teacher, a Lector and Chairman of the Spiritual Development Committee. For many years he took over for “Santa Claus” at the St. Joseph’s Church Christmas Bazaar. His greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 68 So. Franklin St., Holbrook, Ma. 02343 until 9:00 AM Saturday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Holbrook, Ma. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery, Holbrook, MA.
