GATES, Alan J., of Holbrook, formerly of Dorchester and Roxbury, passed away peacefully, on January 27, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 70. Born and raised in Boston, Alan graduated from Boston Tech High School. Prior to retiring, he worked as a Home Inspector for Tiger Home Inspection in Braintree for 14 years. Alan was a founding member of the Doo Wop group, the “Five G’s”, performing all over Boston and the South Shore. A devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, Alan will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Alan was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (MacLeod) Gates. Loving father of Julianne Martin and her husband Michael of Kingston and Alan Gates and his wife Kerry of Pembroke. Devoted brother of Richard Gates and his wife Joanie of Millis, Ronald F. Gates and his wife Gail of Braintree, Robert Gates and his wife Ann of Holbrook, and the late Marion McGuinness, Gerald A. Gates, Edward Gates, Warren Gates, John Gates and Lawrence Gates. Brother-in-law of Helen MacLeod of Santa Fe and her late husband Bill Georgenes, JoAnn O’Rourke and her husband Patrick of Medfield and the late Duncan Macleod. Also survived by 7 grandchildren. Dear uncle of Danielle, Ryan and Christopher and many other nieces, nephews and friends. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St (RT. 37)., Holbrook. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 1st at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday, January 31st from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St, West Bridgewater, MA.
