McCARROLL, Wallace W., Sr., of Avon and Randolph, formerly of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 94. Born in So. Boston, Wally grew up in Weymouth and attended Weymouth Vocational Technical High School until joining the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940, serving in East Burke, VT and Lawrence, MA. He proudly served in the US Army Air Defense Artillery and the Army Corps of Engineers from 1943-1946. He deployed to the Pacific Theater during WWII. He began his working career as a rigger at the Quincy Shipyard from 1947-1964. He then went on to become a maintenance supervisor for the Avon Public Schools. Wally was a licensed 3rd class engineer who had worked at the Hingham Shipyard, Norwood Hospital and Norfolk County Hospital. He also held a license as a journeyman pipefitter. In his free time, Wally enjoyed long scenic drives, listening to music, keeping up with the news and weather, playing cribbage, rowing his boat, figure skating and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid skier for many years. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wallace was the husband of 66 years to the late Alice L. (Dorlay) McCarroll. Loving father of Janet L. Julius and her husband Glen of Oak Harbor, WA, Wallace W. McCarroll, Jr. and his wife Marian of Lakeville, Laura A. McCarroll of Randolph, William E. McCarroll of Avon, Mary E. Gilbert and her husband William of East Bridgewater and Kathleen A. Johnston and her husband Joseph of Randolph. Son of the late Samuel H., Sr. and Helen D. (Quinn) McCarroll. Brother of the late Paul C. Quinn, Robert T. McCarroll, Samuel H. McCarroll, Jr. and Vida Hill. Dear grandfather of Rebecca Julius, Elizabeth Fletcher, Rachel Aguilar, Samuel Julius, Jacqueline McCarroll, Jordan McCarroll, William Gilbert, Matthew Billington and his husband Mark, Andrea Hickey and her husband Ian, Nathan Gilbert and his wife Erica, Kathryn Johnston, Jacob Johnston and Joleen Johnston and his great grandchildren, Ian, James and Gabriel Julius, Delaney and Jack Fletcher, Rachel and Rhea Aguilar, Diego Copeland, Maxwell, Audrey and Conor Hickey and the late Liam Aguilar. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (RT 28) Randolph, until 9:30 AM on Wednesday, January 24th, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Michael Church, 87 No. Main St., Avon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday, January 23rd from 4:00 8:00 PM. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
