CASSANI, Karen E. (Murphy), of Holbrook, formerly of Avon, passed away peacefully in her home on January 15, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, after a period of declining health, at the age of 83. Born and raised in Avon, Karen graduated from Avon High School. Karen was a swimming instructor, working out of her home, who has taught numerous people in and around the Holbrook community how to swim, during her 35 year career. An active member of her community, she was a former Holbrook School Committee member and a member of the Holbrook Arts Council. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Karen will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Karen was the wife of the late Joseph E. Cassani. Loving mother of Cindy DiCicco and her husband Tom of Whitman, Cathy Carey and her husband Jim of Whitman, Nancy West and her husband Mark of Holbrook and Patty Cassani-Blair and her late husband Donny Blair of Holbrook. Devoted sister of Charles Murphy and his wife Barbara, Richard Murphy and Robert Murphy all of CA and the late William Murphy. Sister-in-law of Evelyn Stoltz of Holbrook, Tessie Houser and her husband Bob of Braintree, Pauline Palardy and her late husband Ed of Whitman and Gerrie White and her late husband Bill of Holbrook. Dear “Grammy” to Caitlyn Carey Craven and her husband Tom, Christyn Carey, Caroline Brown and her husband Matt, Thomas DiCicco and his wife Kim, Matthew DiCicco, Taryn Farrell and her husband Calvin, Tabitha West, Tamra West, Kristina Cassani and Brianna Blair. Also survived by 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 68 So. Franklin St. (RT 37) Holbrook, until 9:00 AM on Saturday, January 20th, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Church, 87 No. Main St., Avon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday, January 19th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial in Union Cemetery, Holbrook. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Holbrook Fire Department, 300 S Franklin St, Holbrook, MA 02343 or to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02324.
