CARTWRIGHT, Walter R. “Bob”, of Holbrook, formerly of Randolph, passed away unexpectedly, after a period of failing health and a broken heart, November 10, 2017, at the age of 87. Beloved and devoted husband for over 60 years to his late wife, Shirley R. (Teed) Cartwright. Loving father of Walter R. Cartwright, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Braintree, Scott F. Cartwright and his wife Kathy of Randolph, and Brad J. Cartwright and his wife Maryellen of Braintree. Brother of the late Ralph Cartwright, Virginia Murphy and Sandra Durand. Dear “Papa” of Walter R. Cartwright III and his wife Christie of Windham, NH, Lauren R. Buoniconti and her husband Brian of Quincy, Scott F. Cartwright of Boston, Emily K. Cartwright, PhD and her fiancé Ryan Martinez, PhD of Atlanta, GA, Addison M. Cartwright and Kristina K. Cartwright both of Braintree, Donald “Donny” Brabants, Jr. and his wife Paula of Easton. Also survived by his great grandson Walter R. Cartwright IV of NH, and great granddaughters Zoe Buoniconti of Quincy and Jacqui and Kaleigh Brabants both of Easton. Dear uncle of Robert Durand of Randolph and many other nieces, nephews and extended family. Bob was born in Randolph where he grew up and graduated from Stetson High School, Class of 1948. After graduating from High School he joined the US Navy where he served for 2 years. He was a retired funeral director and former President of the family owned and operated, Cartwright Funeral Homes of Randolph and Holbrook and Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home of Braintree. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 60 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors at the Holbrook Cooperative Bank in Holbrook for almost 50 years and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the time of his retirement. Bob was a Charter Member of the Randolph Lodge of Elks #2130, former member of Braintree Rotary Club, I.O.O. F. Club, Norfolk Union Lodge A.F. & A.M., Braintree, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 167, Braintree. He was an enthusiastic golfer and member of Wollaston Golf Club, Milton. He and his late wife Shirley use to love to entertain and hosted many holiday parties for family and friends. They loved decorating their home for the holidays, any holiday, but most especially Christmas. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 N. Main St., Randolph MA 02368. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 15th at 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, November 14th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will take place in Central Cemetery, Randolph, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Joslin Diabetes Foundation, One Joslin Place, Boston MA 02215 or to Alzheimer ’s disease research.
