DeNAPLES, Dorothy R. “Sis” (Smith), of Quincy, formerly of Charlestown, passed away on October 13, 2017, after a period of failing health, at the age of 94. Born in Boston, Dorothy grew up in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School. She worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Unemployment for many years. After retiring she worked as an Outreach Counselor at Quincy Community Action. She founded Emotions Anonymous, a support group for people with anxiety disorders at the Quincy Hospital. In her free time, Dot enjoyed cooking and was famous among her family for her spaghetti and meatballs. She also enjoyed a good cup of coffee with family and friends. A devoted mother, grandmother and friend, Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Dorothy was the loving mother of Dorothy O’Connell of Quincy, Carol Burhoe of Quincy and the late Patricia Cefalo. Devoted sister of Thomas “Pat” Smith of Marshfield, Mary “Pousie” Woodruff of TX, Margaret ”Peggy” Solberg of Quincy and the late Robert Smith, Susan Marsh, James Smith, and Ralph Smith. Dear “Nana” to Dorie Hall, Scott O’Connell, Jason O’Connell, Carrie Burhoe-Laing and Kristen Burhoe and “Great Nana” to Brent Laing, Brynn Laing, Justin Hall, Alexandra Hall and Ryan O’Connell. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and her dear friend John Pomroy of Marshfield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Graveside Service on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 12:00 Noon in the Pine Hill Cemetery, 815 Willard St., Quincy, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, c/o Business of Your Business, LLC, 333 Westchester Avenue, Suite South 201, White Plains, NY 10604, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
