GIGLIO, Johanna “Joan” M. (Carlino), 89 of Braintree passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 13, 2017. Mrs. Giglio was a homemaker, a talented cake decorator, floral decorator, avid gardener, and animal lover; enjoyed writing short stories and poems, crocheting and baking. Joan and her husband Arthur, a candy maker, loved to make chocolate for each holiday season. Among her many talents she shined as a leader serving as the president of Noah Torrey school PTA, Girl Scout Leader and multi term President of the Braintree Garden Club. She was also a member of the Sons of Italy Ladies Lodge since 1959, chairing many committees and serving as vice-venerable. In 1983 she was nominated as “Woman of the Year”. Whenever she was asked to help Joan always gave 110% of herself. She never said no. She was an inspiration to us all. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, son, Leonard and daughter, Patricia Swinson. She is survived by a son, Frank of Hanover and daughter, Marie Helinski of New Hampshire and brother Angelo Carlino of Florida. She has ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Tuesday, September 19th in St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Braintree. Visiting is from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 845 Washington Street, Braintree, MA. Burial will be in Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Pat Roche Hospice House, 86 Turkey Hill Road, Hingham, MA 02043.
