George was born in Greece where he grew up and was educated. He has lived in Holbrook since the early 1960s. He was a former chef at Jimmy’s Harbor Side Restaurant in Boston for many years. After he retired from Jimmy’s, he co-owned The New Boston Deli and finished his career cooking for grateful students at the Delta Upsilon fraternity at M.I.T.
George was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Brockton and was deeply devoted to his Greek Orthodox faith. He attended services as often as he could, and loved to help out with the annual Greek Festival, carving gyros for the hungry crowds.
George loved to spend time with family, especially when he was cooking a delicious meal for them, or playing cards and backgammon. He was very proud of his Greek heritage, and was a gifted storyteller, who told spellbinding stories of his early life in Greece during World War II, and his adventures coming to America as an immigrant and building a life and family as did many of his generation.
