BERNASCONI, Joseph W. “Joe” of Braintree originally from Dorchester, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, July 5, 2017, after a lengthy illness at the age of 79. Joe would have been 80 years old in just a few weeks. Beloved husband of 53 years to Marjorie “Dee” (Christian) Bernasconi. He was predeceased by their cherished infant daughter Joanne Marie Bernasconi and is the loving father of Joseph W. Bernasconi Jr. and his wife Wendy of Braintree, James M. Bernasconi and his wife Lynda of Braintree, and Michael J. Bernasconi and his wife Cindy of Bourne. Brother of Robert Bernasconi of Randolph, Barbara Butterfield of Braintree, Lorraine Obin of Randolph, Ricky Bernasconi of Abington, and Carol Bernasconi of Randolph. He was “Papa B” to his granddaughters Hannah, Emma, and Maddison. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Boston, grew up in Dorchester and has lived in Braintree since 1954. He was a diesel mechanic who had worked for many years at Boston & Taunton Trucking Co. and Plymouth Rock Truck as well as a member the Machinist Union. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 12 years and was a former member of the Braintree Yacht Club, Braintree for many years. Joe’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family especially his granddaughters. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree MA 02184 until 8:00 AM Monday followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, So. Braintree Sq. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial will take place in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree MA. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his name to either the American Cancer Society or to Old Colony Hospice.
