BURNS, Mary Ann (Whealan), of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Randolph, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2017 at the age of 97. Born in Dorchester, Mary was raised in Randolph. She proudly served her country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Yeoman Second Class. As the wife of a career soldier she travelled the world, living in many different places including Garmisch, Germany, Bangkok, Thailand and Okinawa, Japan. She raised a family and worked as a Secretary throughout this period. Following the death of her husband in 1967 she moved to Atlanta where she spent the rest of her career with the U.S. Forest Service. Mary was the wife of the late John Joseph Burns Jr. and the loving mother of John Joseph Burns III of Reston, VA, Patricia Roseanne Adams of Danville, CA and Thomas Kevin Burns of Atlanta, GA. She was the daughter of the late James P. and Rosa M. (O’Farrell) Whealan of Randolph and the sister of the late Thomas, James, Marion, Eleanor, Margaret, William, Francis, and Catherine. Mary is survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (Rt. 28) Randolph until 9:00 AM on Friday, May 5, 2017, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Bernadette Church, 1027 No. Main St., Randolph. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
