EVERS, James J. “Red”, of Braintree, formerly of Boston, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family on April 28, 2017 at the age of 89. Born in Malden, James was a resident for most of his life, having moved to Braintree 2 years ago. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII, where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement, James was the plant supervisor at Morse Shoe. In his free time he would enjoy the music of Frank Sinatra, however, spending time with his family is what brought him the most joy. James is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Bennett) Evers. Loving father of Michael Evers and his husband Jarred Burn of Braintree, Kenneth Evers and his wife Lori of Taunton, Kristine Lally and her husband Jack of Quincy, Kim Evers of Attleboro and the late Karen Evers. Brother of the late Helena Cortese, Margaret Morretti, Charles Evers and Mildred Evers. Dear “Papa” of Angel, Timmy, Jimmy, Shannon, Sean, Shailyn, Brendan, Allison, Grace, Nick, Kyle, Kalleigh and the late Ryan. Great “Papa” of D.J., Lily, Aubrie and Clara. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral, 845 Washington St., Braintree, until 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Special Olympics Massachusetts, 512 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
