SWAIN, Elisha "Ed", was born April 17, 1942 to the late Jeremiah and Ressie Swain in Talladega, Alabama. He is the fourth of 9 children. His sisters Willie Louise Swain (Maynard), Geraldine (Swain) Williams along with brothers Nimroy Swain and Mose Swain Jr. preceded him in death. He is survived by sisters Mary (Swain) Merriman, Linda (Swain) Mahler, brother Houston Swain, and sister Bernice Swain. After an unexpected diagnosis of cancer, Elisha passed away suddenly on April 13, 2017. At the age of 18, he journeyed to Boston for better work opportunities. He started his career at the Quincy Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts. After many years he joined the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. He was a well-respected professional throughout multiple correctional institutions for more than 30 years. He retired as the Deputy Superintendent of the Boot Camp. His marriage to Barbara Swain was blessed with 4 dedicated, loving children Monica Swain, Arnet Swain Harris, Yvette Joyce, and Elijah Swain. His beloved son Zachary Swain from his current marriage to Julie Mack kept him young. He enjoyed being "Papa" to Malik Harris, Matthew Whitlock, Katharine and Kevin Swain, Hope Joyce, Joseph Broulliard and Guliana Wilkinson. Elisha was a proud man who kept his own counsel. He had tremendously talented hands with which he could build and repair anything. In every way, Elisha worked very hard to provide for his family and friends. He delighted in quietly bestowing his blessings on others. Funeral Services will be held at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 North Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph. The viewing will be Tuesday from 10:00 am -11:00 am, followed by a service 11:00 am -12:00 pm. Burial will follow immediately at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Roslindale, Massachusetts. We encourage all friends and family, whether or not they can attend the service, to celebrate his life with us at our home in Halifax, Massachusetts.
