DALTON, Arthur L. Jr. ("Butch”) Retired Chief Braintree Fire Department and lifelong resident of Braintree, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 79. He was the son of the late Arthur L. and A. Marion (O’Rourke) Dalton. He was a 1956 graduate of Braintree High School. Arthur began his career as a firefighter for the Town of Braintree in 1961 and was awarded the “John L. McDonnell Award” from the BFD in 1987. He rose through the ranks and was appointed Chief in 1993 and served as Chief until his retirement in 1996. He founded Dalton Water Transportation Company in 1971 along with his father and served as the company's president until his death. He was awarded the Town of Braintree's "Martin Luther King, Jr Award" in 2012 for his positive impact on the local community. Beloved husband of 59 years to Jean (O’Leary) Dalton. Loving father of Joseph Dalton and his wife Donna of Braintree, Kelly Burke of Braintree, Thomas Dalton and his wife Mary of Mansfield, John Dalton and his wife Lora of Braintree and Kimberly Seibert and her husband Dick of Braintree. Dear Grandfather of Michael and Emily Dalton, Shannon and Bridget Burke, Patrick and Caroline Dalton, Kasey, John and Erin Dalton, Kaitlyn and Colleen Seibert. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree MA 02184 until 9:00 AM Friday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will take place in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
